中国北京市郊外、60年代の紡績時代を支えた工場街が商業特区として近年開放され、その中のレンガ倉庫の一部を改修した商業複合施設。施主は自身の農園で採れた野菜でヴィーガン料理を調理・研究、提供できるスペース、ヨガや料理教室のできるワークショップスペース、及びアートギャラリーを併設した施設を求めた。異なる用途を小さなレンガ倉庫に落とし込み、紡績時代の遺構を尊重しつつ周辺店舗に埋没しないデザインで新たな息吹を建物と倉庫街にもたらすことがテーマである。店舗の集客効果が最も期待され広告的役割も持つラボや飲食スペースは路面からの視認性がよい１階北側。陽当りや土壌管理を重視する温室は陽当りと水捌けの良い１階南側。ギャラリーは作品を外部からも伺えるように路面に向ける一方で作品保全に配慮して直射日光の当たらない2階北面配置。プライベートな集いが想定されたワークショップスペースは人目に付きにくい2階西向き配置とした。重厚感のあるレンガとの対比を強調するためにガラスチューブで全用途を繋ぎ、ダイナミックな造形を作り出した。間仕切りの無い一続きのチューブは室内の自然対流を促す役割もある。屋上には北京市中心部の高層ビル群を遠方に望めるテラスを設け、円環状に密度が変容する北京特有の都市構造との対話を試みた。解体した既存レンガは歴史の継承と環境保全の観点から柱の仕上げ、外壁等に再利用した。飲食スペースに設けた土間と一体化した長さ４ｍ超のコンクリートテーブルは地面が隆起した力強い地形のような存在感で人を惹きつけるアイコンとなることを期待している。

The Echo House is a Vegan Cooking Research lab + Gallery, workshop space,　from which a red brick warehouse has been renovated in the Beijing spinning area in the 1960s. The theme of the project is to bring new life to the building and the warehouse district by incorporating different uses into a small space and designing it in a way that respects the remains of the spinning era. The layout of uses was planned in a way that responds to the external environment. The lighting conditions, soil environment, and sight lines from the outside were used as indicators.A rooftop terrace with a distant view of the buildings in the center of the city was created in an attempt to create a dialogue with Beijing's characteristic urban structure, in which the density of buildings changes in a circular pattern. Some of the existing bricks that had been dismantled were reused from the perspective of historical inheritance and environmental preservation. The concrete table over 4 meters long integrated with the earthen floor is expected to be inherited in the next generation as a landscape between furniture and architecture.
